HTML5 tester

przez merlin » Cz sie 08, 2013 9:18 pm

Hi

It’s been a while since I posted but I have – in fits and starts – been trying to hone my coding skills.

I’ve been trying to get to grips with HTML5 ( there used to be a tutorial on HTML 5 but it seems to have disappeared ? ) and have adapted my old site to test out my understanding of it.

It all seems to work fine in the latest release of Firefox and almost as well in Chrome and Opera. Of course, in IE it renders as a screen full of gobbledegook.

Despite it not being universally rendered by all browsers I’m going to leave it up for a few days and any feedback would be gratefully received.

Apologies to the first few people who viewed the site. Some of old pages got uploaded along with the new pages resulting in some of the pages not rendering correctly.

I’ve done a quick repair and I think all the pages should be OK now.

Hi CubeSquare

I was reasonably confident that you would grace me with some wisdom and it was good to see your logo/favicon at the top of the page once again.

As far as I’m aware type=”text/css” is no longer required in HTML5 and the “src=”#.js” obviously leads nowhere. It is merely part of a template that I constructed the “#” being replaced by the name of the JavaScript file if there is one.

I’m a bit concerned that you think I need *serious* lessons. Is my coding really that bad? I did validate one page that had 42 errors but they are easily fixable and cleaning up the code is the next phase – the first being to get the darn thing to actually work.

Not sure about the :-

<!--[if lt IE 9]>
<script src="http://html5shiv.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/html5.js"></script>
<![endif]-->

so I’m going to trundle off and have a rummage around the Web to see if I can get some enlightenment.

Thanks and regards

Many, many thanks CubeSquare I went on a search of the Web for the shiv you mentioned and arrived here ;-

https://github.com/aFarkas/html5shiv/

After implementing the shiv and taking note that this was for older browsers and picking up the important point that:-

“Note that html5shiv does not make the browser support HTML5. For example, it cannot make IE7 play videos embedded via HTML5 <video> tag.”

I went on the hunt for HTML5 and IE 10 and came across this page

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library ... 85%29.aspx

Having put the instructions from this page into the my flex boxes I’ve found that EUREKA !! my pages render in IE.

It’s late now and I need to hit the sack but I’ve got most of the reading and spelling pages to work but haven’t had time to do any work on the maths and link-up pages but now that I know what to do I’m sure it wont be a problem getting those to work as well.

Thanks again
